Ending the Galloup line of streamers was a little bittersweet. It was really cool doing all of those videos from someone that I admire so much and actually getting feedback from him. But that is all in the past and we are moving forward with these crazy videos.

About halfway through the Galloup videos I knew the next step would be to jump straight to Mike Schmidt's absolutely awesome flies. I had been tying the Double Deceiver for a couple of months and had a solid chance to fish it (and tweak it a little for the North Fork of the White River) and it is so much fun to watch in the water. Ripping this thing away from the bank on the bow of a drift boat is haunting because, to be quite frank, you are just WAITING for a 70" brown to eat it--and then eat your boat.

Without further ado, the first fly in the Fly Fishing the Ozarks Mike Schmidt series of flies....the Double Deceiver.

I have to be the first to admit....I had no idea what I was getting into when I started doing these tying videos. I thought they were fun and a good way to keep content rolling, but it turns out one or two people have really, really liked them. To be exact, in less than a year--over 30,000 people have liked them (well maybe not "liked" them but "watched" them.) The vast majority of the videos have been following the Galloup line of streamers, and the video in this post will be the last one..........of the Galloup line.

The latest video is Galloup's Articulated Boogie Man. In all honesty, out of all of his flies this one just has a mean look to it--like it would jump out of your Meatlocker and punch you in the face. Kind of a cross between a Sex Dungeon, Zoo Cougar, and a Heifer Groomer this thing needs to be in every streamer freaks box, for sure.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Recipe:

Rear Hook:

Hook - Gamakatsu B10s #2

Tail - Marabou

Body - Estaz

Hackle - Schlappen

Wing - Mallard

Connection Point - Beadalon

Front Hook:

Hook - Gamakatsu B10s #1

Eyes - Lead

Body - Estaz

Hackle - Schlappen

Head - Wool

So the Galloup line of streamers is done. But, you see, I am one completely streamer obsessed fool so I will be jumping straight to Mike Schmidt's crazy-awesome streamers next. With flies like the Double Deceiver, Mufasa, Meal Ticket, Stinky Mayo, and the like---stick around, we are just getting started!! And as always, the recipes to the flies all have links built in for all (or most) of the materials, so all you have to do is click and buy. Word.

Late last Fall I finally upgraded some of my video equipment (read that as i begged my wife for a DSLR so much she finally gave in). Before getting the DSLR I used very, very modest equipment and, to be honest, probably had better quality than I should have.....but it just wasn't "quite" what i was looking for. I will still use the GoPro, and the Xacti but I couldn't be more excited to show you the video withe everything working together.

Winter fishing this year was absolutely awesome. We hit a point where 22" browns on streamers were "cookie cutters" do I need to say anything else?

The newest tying video....The Fat Head/Heifer Groomer. First of all, 2 names? Yeah, Galloup flies are pretty notorious for switching names after they have been out for a little while. The Bottoms Up being another switch from what Galloup referred to as "Tips Up" for a looong time.

Directly speaking, this fly is awesome. It is fairly specialty as in you really have to fish it on a sink tip as it has NO weight--AND it is absolutely best fished from a boat, wading just doesn't do this fly justice. What you first notice is that it is a lot like his famous "Zoo Cougar" only articulated, but then when you really look at it, the Heifer Groomer is a lot easier to tie than the Zoo Cougar, palmering marabou and stacking deer hair is basically all you have to do to tie this awesome articulated streamer.
