Kyle Kosovich, Aaron Scott, and myself will be on our way to Minnesota (with a little fishing on the Driftless on our way up) to chase Musky.....thought it would be good juju to throw some Musky love on the Fishadelic Foto Friday.

June Fly of the Month….Big Muddy.

The June fly of the month is another of the 2010 Feather-Craft Fly Tying Contest winners (2nd Place.) This fly has caught SEVERAL species to date from saltwater to coldwater to warmwater....basically if there are fish that eat in any kind of water (especially big fish) they will like this fly.

After receiving a few emails, all with something like "Where is the Fishadelic Foto..thing this week??" I realized I hadn't done it...my bad.

January Fly of the Month….Morrish Mouse

I just noticed that you typically won't see dry flies as the Fly Fishing The Ozarks fly of the month....so I thought we would change that, kind of. About a year ago Idylwilde sent me a ton of flies to toss around the Ozarks and the North Fork of the White and one of them was a mouse pattern that I thought had to be the most practical mouse I had ever seen. The sound it makes across the top of the water is something close to the same sound I would think a wire brush would make if you could strip one across the surface of water, and it floats like crazy (probably because it is 80% deer hair and 15% foam.) Tailwater fisherman take note, NOW....night fishing on low water--this thing leaves a wake that is only comparable to tossing a small dog and will get attention quick. December Fly of the Month….

On my home waters, the North Fork of the White River, Missouri caddis are a huge staple. I pretty much have a full side of one of the new Feather-Craft Waterproof Fly Boxes FULL of caddis pupa in different sizes and colors. I am personally not one of those guys that give trout WAY more credit than they deserve...but I have seen tons of caddis pupa bites that were very, very particular in size, color, and profile--the Nitro Caddis covers all of those and does a bang-up job doing it.

Since I have been making some little tying videos for the Feather-Craft Fly Tying Contest I thought I would start sharing these with the Fly Fishing The Ozarks readers. Most of these videos are of new or 'newer' fly tying materials that we thought was super cool....and this video has my personal favorite new material. Hareline's Wiggle Dub. This stuff is a rabbit based dubbing with TINY rubber-legs IN IT. Check them out and also check out this video of this "Wiggle Stone" I came up with.

A new fly tying contest!

A fly tying contest where the winner has their fly in Feather-Craft's 2011 catalogue AND other super-sweet prizes? Well, it is happening. I've been working with Feather-Craft to get this thing rolling and I have to say...it is the best fly tying contest I have heard of. The winner will have their fly produced by Rainy's, will win a new Renzetti Traveler Vise along with other awesome prizes (one of which I am completely freaking out about.) Prizes like these are literally unheard of as far tying contest go so you would think the major production tyers will be submitting their patterns right? Wrong...no "ringers" allowed, those tyers that already have a fly in production are not allowed to submit. In other words this contest is for the average joe fly tyer.

The contest site is in blog format and will feature every-single-fly that is in the contest, with a photo, and 'recipe' for all the flies as well! And since it is in blog format comments are allowed and VERY welcome. As a matter of fact you can go to the site right now, post a comment on the March Giveaway page and you could win a Renzetti this month! When you are there sign up for email notifications because the site will be changing all the time. Pretty cool customer service kind of thing from an awesome fly shop!
