Kyle Kosovich, Aaron Scott, and myself will be on our way to Minnesota (with a little fishing on the Driftless on our way up) to chase Musky.....thought it would be good juju to throw some Musky love on the Fishadelic Foto Friday.

June Fly of the Month….Big Muddy.

The June fly of the month is another of the 2010 Feather-Craft Fly Tying Contest winners (2nd Place.) This fly has caught SEVERAL species to date from saltwater to coldwater to warmwater....basically if there are fish that eat in any kind of water (especially big fish) they will like this fly.

The "hosting" gig over at the Feather-Craft Fly Tying Contest is one of the more cool things I have been a part of in the fly tying world. We have seen some absolutely awesome flies come through the line and we have tons more to come.

One of the winners from the 2010 Contest was Sam Potts with his "Big Muddy" and having personally fished this fly...it is awesome.

Since I have been making some little tying videos for the Feather-Craft Fly Tying Contest I thought I would start sharing these with the Fly Fishing The Ozarks readers. Most of these videos are of new or 'newer' fly tying materials that we thought was super cool....and this video has my personal favorite new material. Hareline's Wiggle Dub. This stuff is a rabbit based dubbing with TINY rubber-legs IN IT. Check them out and also check out this video of this "Wiggle Stone" I came up with.

A new fly tying contest!

A fly tying contest where the winner has their fly in Feather-Craft's 2011 catalogue AND other super-sweet prizes? Well, it is happening. I've been working with Feather-Craft to get this thing rolling and I have to say...it is the best fly tying contest I have heard of. The winner will have their fly produced by Rainy's, will win a new Renzetti Traveler Vise along with other awesome prizes (one of which I am completely freaking out about.) Prizes like these are literally unheard of as far tying contest go so you would think the major production tyers will be submitting their patterns right? Wrong...no "ringers" allowed, those tyers that already have a fly in production are not allowed to submit. In other words this contest is for the average joe fly tyer.

The contest site is in blog format and will feature every-single-fly that is in the contest, with a photo, and 'recipe' for all the flies as well! And since it is in blog format comments are allowed and VERY welcome. As a matter of fact you can go to the site right now, post a comment on the March Giveaway page and you could win a Renzetti this month! When you are there sign up for email notifications because the site will be changing all the time. Pretty cool customer service kind of thing from an awesome fly shop!
